Definition of «return mail»

Return mail is a term used to describe any piece of mail that has been sent back to its sender because it could not be delivered. This can happen for several reasons, such as an incorrect or incomplete address, the recipient no longer living at that location, or refusal by the recipient to accept delivery. The returned mail is then returned to the sender, who will usually receive a notification from the postal service indicating why it was unable to be delivered.
